TMJ Arthrocentesis
A minimally invasive joint-flushing procedure — sterile fluid circulated through the TMJ via small needles to wash out inflammatory chemicals, release a stuck disc, and restore smooth movement without open surgery.
Under local anesthesia with optional IV sedation, two fine needles enter the upper joint space; sterile solution lavages the joint, breaking adhesions and flushing inflammatory mediators; anti-inflammatory medication or PRF/PRP may be instilled. Under an hour, minimal recovery.
Closed lock (suddenly limited opening), painful clicking that failed splint therapy, inflammatory flare-ups, and early degenerative changes — a step before considering open joint surgery.
- Restores mouth opening, often same day
- Needle-based, no incisions, minimal downtime
- Flushes the inflammation driving chronic pain
- Can be enhanced with the patient's own PRF/PRP.
CBCT confirms joint anatomy and rules out other pathology beforehand; PRF can be placed into the joint to support healing.
